Remembering My Mother

My mother
1911 - 1994

My mother passed away in India on December 5, 1994. I was in USA. Going to India at the time was not possible for me. I wrote the following six line poem spontaneously in my native language ("mother tongue"). It just came to me. I felt much better after writing this.

My mother's memorial service was held in India ten days after her death as per our Hindu custom. I did not go to India. I wrote the following poem on that day to remember her and to pay respect to her. It brought peace to my mind.

The above poems were written on the pages of a very ordinary note pad. I just tore up the pages from the note pad and kept the poems along with my other important papers. I have tons of pictures of my mother, but these poems are my best memories of my mother. Because they came spontaneously from my heart.

I don't know if any of my family members knew about the existence of these poems. But since they are important to me, I am saving these in this electronic medium which hopefully will prevent them from damage which can happen to ordinary paper in a number of ways.
